Winter Eye Protection
Protect your eyes during the cold winter months!
Winter weather brings unique challenges for eye health that many people don't consider. Cold, dry air outdoors and heated air indoors can both lead to dry, irritated eyes.
Wind and Cold. Harsh winter winds can cause excessive tearing and discomfort. Wear wraparound sunglasses or goggles during outdoor activities to shield your eyes.
UV Exposure. Snow reflects up to 80% of UV rays, effectively doubling your exposure. Always wear UV-protective sunglasses when spending time outdoors in winter, especially during snow activities.
Indoor Heating. Central heating systems reduce humidity, which can dry out your eyes. Use a humidifier and keep artificial tears on hand to maintain moisture.
Screen Time. We tend to spend more time indoors during winter, often in front of screens. Remember the 20-20-20 rule to prevent digital eye strain.
If you experience persistent dryness or irritation this winter, schedule an appointment with Dr. Sunga to discuss treatment options.
